12/09/2023 | A Group from the Bureau of Indian Standards Explores Smart Farming Solutions for Achieving Food Security
The international study tour from September 4 to September 12, 2023, explored smart farming solutions with the aim of achieving food security. The tour was attended by participants from all over the world, including a delegation from the Bureau of Indian Standards.
During the visit, various sites were explored, providing insight into cutting-edge technologies for arid climate agriculture, soil-less agriculture, and green pest control, among many others.
Participants were also introduced to the cooperative farming community principles of a Kibbutz, emphasizing collaborative and community-driven farming practices.
The knowledge and experiences gained during the international study tour offer valuable insights into the potential of smart farming solutions in achieving food security. The delegation from the Bureau of Indian Standards intends to apply these learnings to develop national standards for smart farming systems, thereby contributing to sustainable and productive agricultural practices in India.
According to Mr Debasish Mahalik, Scientist-B and Assistant Director of the Bureau of Indian Standards, “As a Member Secretary, I am involved in developing the National Standard on various aspects of SMART farming systems. The experience and exposure from this study tour will definitely be of great help in the development of these standards in order to incorporate the practices in the existing agriculture practices in the country.”
