Congratulations to Dr Freddie Kabango who successfully completed his PhD in Agro-Ecology and Food Systems at Uganda Martyrs University

He is currently Assistant Commissioner for Soil and Water Conservation at the Ugandan Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries and the National Focal Point for the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD).

His work concentrated on the idea of making common bean farming more productive and profitable in the Ferralsols of Lake Victoria Crescent. These soils in Uganda have issues like low pH, lack of phosphorus, and poor natural fertility. One way he looked at was optimizing how much agricultural lime and chicken manure is used to enhance nutrient availability for the beans. This could be a significant improvement since these soils are commonly found in Uganda where many crops are grown.
We wish him continued success.
