12/07/2015 | GIMI Management visits Malawi and Zambia

Major General (Ret.) Dr. Baruch Levy, Chairman of the Board and Dr. Joseph Shevel, President of Galilee Institute paid a short visit to Malawi and Zambia at the end of June, beginning of July.

Malawi
They started their meetings at the airport! Graduate Ms. Janet Chitukula Chidengu, Social Welfare Officer at the Ministry of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare came to airport to meet them, as she couldn’t make it to the graduate meeting, which was called at very short notice. However a number of dear graduates did make the meeting and Drs. Shevel and Levy were very happy to see them.

Graduate Meeting in Malawi

During their very short time in Malawi, they met up with many Graduates, including Mr. Andrew Mabvuto Chipokosa Mpesi, Programme Officer at the Farmers Union of Malawi. They enjoyed a lovely dinner at the home of Graduate Prof. Ezara Jack Makhaza, Group Chairman of ShareWORLD Open University.

They paid a visit to the Ministry of Defence and met the Deputy Minister the Hon. Jappie Mhango, MP.

They also enjoyed meeting up with GIMI graduate General Ignancio John Maulana, Commander of the Malawi Defence Force.

Major General (Ret.) Dr. Levy and Dr. Shevel also held an interesting and very pleasant meeting with GIMI Graduates Mr. Benedicto Wokomaatani  Malunga,  Registrar,  University of Malawi, College of Medicine and his sister-in-law Dr. Susan Chikagwa-Malunga, who is currently heading a project; building Mombera University, in the north of the state, around Mzimba, about 100 km from Mzuzu. They are incorporating 3 different Agricultural Departments including Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine.

Graduate Mr. Grey Mang'anda introduced them to The Hon. Vincent Winstone Ghambi Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Technology during their visit to the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST).

They also held fruitful meetings with Mr. Joshua Varela, Special Advisor to the Vice President, Office of the Vice President and the Hon. Patricia Anne Kaliati, Minister, Ministry of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare.

Dr. Shevel and Dr. Levy, were delighted to have had the opportunity to meet the Hon. Dr. Allan J. Chiyembekeza, MP, the Minister of of Agriculture and Irrigation.

Zambia
Major General (Ret.) Dr. Levy and Dr. Shevel then flew to Zambia for further important meetings. They held a fruitful meeting with Mr. George Okech, FAO Representative, FAO Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO).

They visited several Ministries in Zambia, including the Ministry of Health where they met with the Deputy Minister Dr. Chitalu Chilufya.

At the Ministry of Finance they were happy to meet GIMI Graduate Mr. Abraham Kamalamba, Acting Assistant Director – Administration, Office of the Auditor General.

They held a very fruitful and pleasant discussion with GIMI Graduate Hon. MP Harry Kalaba, the Minister of Foreign Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

At their visit to the Ministry of Defence, they were very pleased to see GIMI Graduate, the Hon. Rose Mulemba Salukatula, Permanent Secretary, who also introduced them to Col. W. Simwanda, Director of Training.

At the Zambia Electricity Supply Corporation (ZESCO) Ltd they were warmly greeted by Graduate Mrs. Brenda Chizinga, Chief Environmental Scientist, Environmental and Social Analysis Unit.

During an interesting visit to the Copperbelt University, they were delighted to meet with GIMI Graduates Professor Naison Ngoma Vice Chancellor and Dr. Gillian Kabwe, Acting Director of External Relations.

They enjoyed a good lunch with Graduate Mrs. Karen Edvai Sichinga, Executive Director, Churches Health Association of Zambia (CHAZ).

They also enjoyed meeting with Graduate Mrs. Katongo Sabina Mulenga Chifwepa, Director of the Cabinet Office, Zambia

At the University of Lusaka they met Prof. Pinalo Chifwanakeni Vice Chancellor with his daughter GIMI Graduate Ms. Mawila Natasha Chifwanakeni, Business Development Manager.

Dr. Shevel and Dr. Levy were also delighted to visit Graduate Prof. Enala Lyson Tembo Ngulube Mwase, Deputy Vice Chancellor at UNZA University.

They also held an informal graduate meeting at the hotel, and although it was short notice they were happy to see all who showed up.
