"As a professional in the transport sector, Transport Planning, Development and Management has developed my skills and knowledge in understanding transportation planning responsibilities. I have come to appreciate that Transport is of vital importance to modern society. When improperly planned, the side effects of transport systems are harmful. Road accidents, air pollution, congestion and delays in the delivery of goods and services can be minimised if funds and efforts are invested in efficient planning and future development. When it comes to emissions, Rail transport is the most environment-friendly way to travel. The greenhouse effect of gas emissions per kilometer on railway transport is 80% less than cars. However, the investment seems to be still low in comparison to Roads in Uganda. More important than the technology itself; solutions, based on accurate knowledge and understanding of what experience has taught us, are key. We have also learnt that the old adage of “speed kills “is only true to underdeveloped transport systems, this means that we need to improve our transport planning so that we can have better infrastructure development to match the ever-increasing demand"
