Ethiopia

Dr. Shevel met with our Graduate from the African Union, Mr. Mike Bugason, Advisor to the Special Envoy on LRA Issues, Peace and Security Department. He took this opportunity to congratulate the AU on their 50 years anniversary.

Dr. Shevel also paid a visit to the GIZ Office in Ethiopia, where he met with Dr. Daniel Passon Regional Director GIZ and Dr. Johannes Schoeneberger Sustainable Land Management (SLM) Programme.

Dr. Shevel visited Living Water International, where he was delighted have a meeting with his friend and three time GIMI Graduate, Country DirectorAlemayehu Habtegabriel Woldemeskel.

Dr. Shevel visited the Dashen Bank, where GIMI has many graduates and held a productive meeting with the President, Mr. Assa Walemu.

Nigeria

Dr. Shevel was happy to meet two graduates from the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO). Prof. Chigozie C. Asiabaka, the Vice Chancellor and his wife Dr. Ihuoma Asiabaka, Director, Centre for Women, Gender and Development Studies.

Saturday Evening (9th May) Dr. Shevel stayed overnight in Enugu, he was delighted that GIMI Graduates accepted his invitation to meet him for tea at the Hotel, even though it was rather short notice. GIMI Graduates: Dr. Ukamaka Cecilia Asogwa; Mrs. Chinyere Nma Ogbonna; Dr. George Paul Ifeanyi Oluka; Mr. Nebechi Ugwuozor; Dr. Anselm Ego Onyimonyiand Mr. Emmanuel Ifeanyi Ugbene are pictured below, with Dr. Shevel.


During Dr. Shevel's visit to Nigeria, he was delighted to see good friends and GIMI graduates Prof. Bartholomew Ndubuisi Okolo, Former Vice Chancellor, University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) and Prof. Nwabu Anene Moneke in Enugu.

Dr. Shevel was invited to give a lecture at the University of Ibadan, by the Vice Chancellor, another dear GIMI Graduate Prof. Isaac Folorunso Adewole. Dr. Shevel's lecture on "Higher Education and National Development: Lessons for Nigeria” was enjoyed by a large audience, including some 30 GIMI Graduates.

While at the University of Ibadan, Dr. Shevel was very happy to see yet another good friend and Graduate Prof. Elijah Afolabi Bamgboye , Professor of Demography and Medical Statistics and Former Deputy Vice Chancellor.

Letter of Appreciation from the University of Ibadan

Dr. Shevel was delighted to travel to Ondo State where he met another dear Graduate, the Hon. Barr. Albert Oluwatoyin Akinkuotu, Head of Service, Ondo State Government.  He was honoured to meet the Deputy Governor and  all the Commissioners.  They held a fruitful discussion on future cooperation.

Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, was the next port of call for Dr. Shevel, he called in to congratulate a dear Graduate, Engineer Idowu Boniface Ologunagbaon his position as Rector.  He met up with many more dear GIMI Graduates for meetings to reaffirm the warm cooperation between Rufas Giwa Polytechnic and GIMI, including the Acting Director of ICT Mr. Olatunde Emmanuel Olaseni.

Dr. Shevel also visited Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko where he was delighted to see  Professor Igbekele Amos Ajibefun, Vice Chancellor and dear GIMI Graduate. He met with many of the Deans and Directors to discuss further cooperation.

At the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) Dr. Kolawole Taofeek Gbadamosi, another dear GIMI Graduate met with Dr. Shevel and introduced him to Prof. Akindahunsi, Director of the International Office and Prof.  Tunde Arayela, the new Deputy Vice Chancellor.

Ghana
Dr. Shevel then flew to Ghana, where he met with Mr. Bukar Tijani, the Assistant Director-General and Regional Representative for Africa at the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), Regional Office for Africa. They discussed cooperation in the field of Agriculture.

His next meeting was at GIMPA with the Deputy Rector, Prof. Philip Duku Osei. They held further talks on developing a joint programme for a Masters in Educational Management.

While in Ghana Dr. Shevel was delighted to have met with a dear Graduate,Mr. Kwami Antwi-Boasiako, Finance Officer at the Central University College (CUC), in Ghana.

Dr. Shevel also held a productive meeting with the Hon. Kwaku Ansa-Asare, Rector of Mount Crest University College.

Dr. Shevel went to the University for Development Studies (UDS), to discuss the joint Medical School, with Dr. Samuel Bugri the Ag. Vice Dean, School of Medicine and Health Science. The aim is to start delivering programmes this September. Dr. Shevel was also delighted to see some more dear Graduates, including Prof. Haruna Yakubu, the Vice Chancellor and Prof. Gabriel Ayum Teye, the Pro-Vice-Chancellor.
