Advanced Crop Production and Irrigation Technologies

Advanced Crop Production and Irrigation Technologies

Dates: 25 October - 7 November, 2017
13 - 26 March, 2018

Learn to Grow Crops the Israeli Way

Israel has much to share as an arid country with a prospering agricultural market that thrives on innovation and practical, cost-effective solutions, rather than natural resources. In this programme, participants will learn from Israeli experts how to establish & manage production in warm climates. They will discover the variety of crops that may be grown under these conditions and explore the ways many may be adapted to cooler climates.

Irrigation and intensive crop production techniques are known to more than double yield and contribute effectively to food security while saving water. However, alongside the benefits are threats to the quality of soil and water. This course focusses on sustainable methods by which high yield may be achieved while ensuring water safety, food safety and the prevention and mitigation of land degradation and desertification.

Participants will each select one of seven “focus” options:

  • Citrus, Mango, Avocado
  • Intensive Vegetable Production in a Protected Environment
  • Growing Flowers in a Controlled Environment
  • Row Crops: Cotton and Corn
  • Deciduous Crops
  • Growing Bananas in a Sub-Tropical Climate
